Black Beauty is written from a horse's point of view. The book goes from when the filly is born to when it is old. The horse has many owners in it's life. The first owner breaks him in to be ridden and to pull a carriage. One of his owner's is a man named Squire Gordon. Black Beauty is their carriage horse positioned next to a horse named Ginger. Beauty has learned that even when your owner is mean to you, you must always try your hardest.
